Finger Food Fun: Oven Baked Mozzarella Sticks

  • 12 pieces string cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs or 5 whole grain crackers
  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs Panko
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Pizza sauce for dipping


  • Cut string cheese in half, to create 24 pieces of cheese.
  • Place cheese in freezer for 2-4 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 400F.
  • You will need 3 bowls or shallow plates. In the first bowl, add flour. In the second bowl, add egg and beat. In third bowl, combine bread crumbs, panko crumbs and flour.
  • Now time to add the breading. Place frozen piece of cheese in flour mixture and coat. Next, take the floured cheese stick and dip in the egg mixture to evenly coat. Finally, take the egg and flour covered cheese stick and roll in the bread crumbs to create a nice bread coating. Repeat this step until all cheese sticks are coated. It’s important that the cheese is completely covered to prevent cheese melting out. Return cheese to freezer for at least 15 minutes.
  • Place cheese sticks on a lined baking sheet. Bake at 400F for 5-7 minutes. Serve immediately with your favorite pizza sauce.


Tip: If you need to stack cheese in a container for freezing, place parchment paper between the layer to prevent the cheese from sticking together.
